alaysia jordan was not an avid reader growing up in a small rust belt city in Western New York. In fact, in order to get her to read a book, her family members had to pay her. And still, she would not finish a book even with a cash incentive. Instead, she spent her days devouring martial arts films, animes, studying music, and trying to figure out how to make the best of a life and upbringing that was unorthodox, slightly uncomfortable, but secretly a blessing in disguise. 

During those formative years, she by chance picked up a young adult fantasy novel that changed her relationship to books, and quickly learned they were "no longer the enemy." That realization fueled her love and desire to escape reality (for a short while) because reading fantasy felt limitless to her. But she soon noticed a pattern: the hero of the story never looked like her or people she knew. So she took it upon herself to write fantastical stories she would have enjoyed just as much which includes plots where Black people were included and purposeful, didn't die for another character, or were villainized. (Don't get her wrong, she loves a good villain.)

She created her own major incorporating creative writing and screenwriting (because the writing conservatory wouldn't accept her, even after she made several attempts) and graduated from SUNY Purchase College with a bachelors degree because people couldn't stop her.

Her creative path lead her from studying vocal performance and event planning to creative writing and working on realty TV shows and feature films. Today, alaysia is young adult and adult fantasy writer, the founder of the BIPOC Bookshelf, a creator of websites for small businesses to New York Times Bestselling Authors, a sensitivity reader for Penguin Random House, Macmillan, and HarperCollins, and a visual and product designer.

When she's not writing, you can find her watching anime, desert hiking, trying really hard to resist sweets (her teeth and skin beg her), playing a game (board, video, card... it doesn't matter she's gonna win), exploring new places, enjoying food (Tteokbokki, Jamaican beef patties, and soft lemon cookies are winning right now... not eaten all together though), cracking a joke, and learning something new every day.
